Over the centuries, the history of La Clusaz has developed through the lives of the men and women that have lived here, each in their own unique way. Today the people of La Clusaz are proud to uphold the tradition of a warm welcome and maintain their unique way of life. Here are some portraits of today’s local champions, artisans, men and women.
DOROTHÉE VITTOZ: TREATMENTS AND NATURE IN LA CLUSAZFormer tourist office front desk manager, Dorothée loves life in the resort and living with the changing seasons. As a career change she trained in reflexology in 2015 to be able to spend more time with her children. She was motivated by how reflexology improves the immune system and decided to train further in aromatherapy. Dorothée proposes treatments in close connection with the surrounding environment using aromatic plants and in accordance with the seasons. A high level sportswoman herself, in cross-country skiing and trail running, she knows how feet can get a battering and has the magic touch to help calm them!
THE HALLANT FAMILY: 4 SISTERS = 4 SKI INSTRUCTORS
For the Hallant family, skiing is a family affair. For the past 2 years, Emma, the last of the siblings, has joined the ESF team in La Clusaz, like her sisters before her. In order: Lydie (28 years old), Elise (26 years old), Adèle (24 years old) and Emma (21 years old) learned at La Clusaz Sports Club (with a few years on the FIS circuit for the elderly) before teaching on the slopes of the resort. Applied, hard working, athletic or artistic, each of the sisters has her own personality but one thing in common: their smile and their desire to transmit!
BEN BURATTI: LOCAL FREESTYLERBorn in Haute Savoie, Benoît Buratti started skiing moguls from the age of 9 when he started freestyle skiing. At 12 he decided to opt for slopestyle and quickly improved, joining the La Clusaz Club des Sports in 2014. He continued improving through highs and lows culminating in a qualification for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. He has since continued his international career, while also filmmaking and inspiring others with his graceful style and technique. Look out for him in competition this winter, he is currently member of the French Ski Team, a Faction athlete, French Big Air vice-champion 2019 and best French skier in the worldwide classification! !
PATRICK AGNELLET: THE ARTIST CHOCOLATIER
Local Pâtissier-chocolatier Patrick Agnellet has an international reputation and is dedicated to his work as an artform. Located in La Clusaz, he has won several awards and is part of the very selective circle of Relais Desserts. His exceptional, original creations include an alphabet of flavours, a box set of 26 original chocolates and a collection of Gourmand’art, works of art, made entirely of chocolate. In 2017 he received the honour of creating, along with his son Louis, the cake for the 40th birthday of the President of France: « L’Elysée ».
GREEN GENERATION : THE GREEN INITIATIVE
Four childhood friends, Maje, Louise, Cerise and Rose are between 8 and 12 and have got together with a sole mission: to get adults more concerned about the environment and especially in the mountains. They tirelessly create initiatives to protect the planet like; zero waste days, the distribution of pocket ashtrays during big events and filming tutorials on internet. They continue to inspire holidaymakers and locals throughout the winter in the resort.
