What makes a perfect day in La Clusaz?

Publication date 24 October 2022,

The ideal itinerary, the recipe for happiness, the highway to happiness... Call it what you want! Today, we take you to the wonderful land of white powder. Not the one that slips into your nostrils, the other one : the one that just slips.

Imagine, you open your little eyes in your cozy bed, and outside, it has been snowing all night. The sun is peeking out from behind the Aravis mountain range. The village is just waking up and the skiers are wriggling (or stomping) with impatience waiting for the slopes to open. The equipment is ready since the day before on the living room table and you hope to be among the first to hit the powder. That's it: 9:00 am sharp, let's go for the adventure!

We go to the top of the plateau of Beauregard to admire the sunrise on the Aravis pass. A small coffee in the restaurant of altitude the 1647 will put back in spirits those who are not well awake. Then we head for the first descent to warm up on the gentle slopes of the plateau.

While the families continue the descent of the reblochon trail to the village, we decide to make the big tour by passing by the neighbors of Manigod. Arrived at the col de la Croix Fry, the warming up continues until the Tête de Cabeau before joining the col de Merdassier. The serious things can begin: see you at the top of the Etale!

Now that you are warmed up, we attack with the Régine Cavagnoud red trail to warm up the thighs and have a schuss until the village before climbing on the neighboring massif. If ever you have a slump, a stopover in one of the numerous bars of the area will be perfect to recover your strength.

Next step: the crêt du Loup on the massif de l'Aiguille. The objective is simple: eat bumps on Edgar Grospiron's wall and visit the Family Run for an initiation to freestyle on modules adapted to all levels. The playground is so playful that we advise you to do it twice. The first time is to get a feel for the terrain, the second time is to let go of the brakes!

The connoisseurs will have already understood, this great visit of the domain ends inevitably at Balme. Some will say: "the best for last", but we are not here to show favoritism. The combe de Balme is to be deserved. From the gondola and on the chairlift that leads to the pass, we take our time to spot the place, to study the lines and to admire those who run down this great snowpark offered by Mother Nature. This is the backcountry site par excellence and, without knowing it, you will probably come across international freeride and freestyle skiers. Open your eyes wide!

To return, the Fernuy gondola will drop you almost at the top of the Aiguille. It is with a head full of memories that you will go down to the village, unless you have time to have a last drink at the relay of the Aiguille while admiring the sunset on the valley.
